Having to come up with about 3 months of increased rent in short notice has put a hamper on buying new stuff for the new place, but next month I'll hopefully be able to catch up some.

Considering how fast things have gone, and are going, I can't complain much (except for the heat/humidity levels the past 2 weeks that have been exhausting to work in). Just 2 weeks from the day my old landlord told me he needed the apartment back to the day I move into the new place. Bonus was getting the rent knocked down enough to cover the electric bill because of my old landlord's affiliation with the new one (living there for 16 years helped things out) - and my boss giving me a raise to help cover the increase in rent didn't hurt either!

Sometimes things seem to just work out :-)


New place has it's pros and cons. Much bigger, cleaner, more closets than I know what to do with (only had one tiny one in the old place), and overall nicer. There's fewer windows with no real cross breeze which make the place pretty damned humid, and I have to pay my own electricity now, but at least I can keep my washer/dryer/iguana (three things that are tough to get by without :-p).

New landlord owns a landscaping business, so there's a nice pond in the back yard - which means tons of bugs will be attracted tot he area, and the humidity in the new place doesn't help - but I've built several hotels and motels for any potential uninvited guests to take extended stays in :-p

Getting a FiOS DVR from the landlord for only $20/mo, which is what I was giving my old landlord for a cablevision DVR with the gold package (not sure what TV package the new place has have, but most of what I watch is basic cable stuff anyway so anything else is just a bonus)

Having my optonline cable internet installed Thursday (the day I'm officially moving in). Didn't feel like dealing with Verizon for the internet as I'd need to sign a contract (with early termination fees up the arse), and changing all of my online accounts over would have been a full time job in itself!

Aside from having to deal with the crowds and traffic at Ikea, Home Depot, and Long Island in general, the hardest part was going through 16 years of accumulated crap, and cleaning off all the computer equipment that's been transporting dust from some other dust-filled dimension :-p
